NOWSHERA: In an attempt to recover Ali Haider Gilani, son of former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani who was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen from Multan on May 9, Nowshera police conducted an operation in Misri Banda area of Akora Khatak and rescued a hostage Thursday, Geo News reported.

The DPO told that operation is still underway to rescue Ali Haider Gilani.

The rescued individual named Abdul Wahab told that the son of former prime minister was held captive with him but the abductors moved him elsewhere few days ago.

Four other men and two women were also held during operation.

Ali Haider Gilani was kidnapped on May 9 after gunmen shot dead two of his associates in an election meeting.

Former prime minister Gilani had sought help from the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) for the recovery of his son. Ali Haider, a candidate from PP-200, was kidnapped after he addressed a corner meeting in Farrukh Town in the limits of the Seetal Marri Police Station.

Eyewitnesses say the gun-wielding attackers forced him into a numberless car and vanished in no time, but before laying their hands on Haider, they gunned down his personal secretary Mohiuddin Bhutta and a bodyguard.
