It is reported in media that in the next few days India’s cosmopolitan city of Mumbai will ban mannequins displaying lingerie and other skimpy clothing. This ban will be enforced as an anti-rape measures. In the last few months rapes in India has increased a lot and foreign female tourist were also raped. RecentlyAmerican tourist was gang rapedin northern Indian resort town of Manali by truck drivers.
Last month the Mumbai municipal council passed resolution from stop displaying scantily-clad mannequins on shops. City council member said:”Some people get provoked by mannequins. After all, a mannequin is a replica of a woman’s body. That’s why I oppose it, because mannequins do not suit Indian culture”.
A university student living in Karachi while responding to this news said that it will be a great decision by India if it bans lingerie mannequins. He said that in some of malls in Karachi lingerie mannequins are on display and it is very shameful. He said that if non-Muslim country can take such type of decision than it is a big shame for us that we are not ready to ban these things in Pakistan.
